Troubleshooting

In small engines generally, difficult starting and erratic running is most often caused by a
dirty spark plug. If a new spark plug of the correct type does not restore the engine to
proper operating condition, the problem may be solved by reference to the chart below.

Refill tank with correct fuel

Throttle lever in incorrect position

Refer to 'Starting Procedures'

Spark plug lead not connected

Press terminal cover fully onto
the spark plug

Engine flooded

Turn fuel tap 'OFF'. Pull starter cord
until engine starts, then turn fuel
tap 'ON'

Dirty spark plug

Replace spark plug

Stale fuel in tank from last season
