This heater uses Smart Sense

technology for variable

rate heat control. L.B.White has worked with agricultural
building control manufacturers for the proper
implementation of the Smart Sense

variable rate heating

control logic. If you have questions on whether or not your
control incorporates the Smart Sense

control logic, call

L.B.White Co.

When integrated to a building controller

,

precise, automated

control of the environment is achieved by operating the
heater over a broad heat range. (See page 4 for minimum to
maximum heat inputs, depending on model.) This provides
better, more even temperature distribution by allowing the
heater to operate at the output necessary to maintain
temperature. This results in consistent temperatures and
reduced fuel consumption.

As shipped from the factory, the heater is wired to start
and operate at minimum heat. Connection to a building
controller capable of providing 0-10 VDC, 0-20 milliamp,
or 4-20 milliamp signal for the heater’s Smart Sense™gas
control valve is required for further operation. See Fig. 1
for a typical system diagram.

Sequence of Operation

a

. Building controller determines that heat is required.

b. Building controller closes the heating contact,

providing power and the control signal to the

Smart

Sense

heater.

c. The

Smart Sense

heater starts at the minimum

operation position.

d. The

Smart Sense

control logic incorporated in the

building controller then manages the output of the

Smart Sense

heater as necessary to achieve and

maintain the desired room temperature.

Note: When properly set up, the

Smart Sense

variable

rate heater will run for long periods of time - much
longer than typically experienced with on/off
heating. This is normal and is key to achieving the
consistent air temperatures and fuel savings
associated with

Smart Sense

variable rate

heating.

e. If the building controller determines that heat is no

longer required, it will shut the heater off and then
will initiate the heating sequence again when heat is
required.
