AXLES

NOTE: To extend or retract jacks or to extend or retract the

axles, the boom must be below horizontal and not
extended more than 10 feet (3 meters). The machine
must also be on a flat, level surface.

To Extend the Axles

1.

Remove the pins from the front steer cylinder and tie
rod. Be sure the SELECT SWITCH is set to
GROUND.

2.

Machines after S/N 47227 have spindle stop pins to
keep the spindles centered while extending the axle.
Place the stop pin in the hole closest to the spindle
as shown.

3.

From the controls at the front axle, with the engine
running, push the axle jack control switch down to
raise the axle.

4.

When the tires are off the ground, push the axle
extend switch to the left to extend the axle. When the
axle is fully extended, return the pins to the front
steer cylinder and tie rod. On machines after S/N
47227, return the spindle stop pin to the steering
position.

5.

Repeat steps 1 thru 3 for the for the rear axle. The
machine is now ready for boom operations.

To Retract the Axles

1.

Remove the pins from the front steer cylinder and tie
rod. Be sure the SELECT SWITCH is set to
GROUND. On machines after S/N 47227, place the
spindle stop pin in the Axle Extend/Retract position.

2.

From the controls at the front axle, with the engine
running, push the axle jack control switch down to
raise the axle.

3.

Swing the steer cylinder clear of the axle tube before
retracting the axle.

4.

When the tires are off the ground, push the axle
extend switch to the right to retract the axle. When
the axle is fully retracted, align the steer cylinder with
the mounting bracket and return the pins to the front
steer cylinder and tie rod. On machines after S/N
47227, return the spindle stop pin to the steering
position.

5.

Repeat steps 1 thru 4 for the for the rear axle.
