Introduction

1.1 What Is Bria?

CounterPath Bria is a standards-based multimedia communications application.With its enhanced new
interface, Bria expands the softphone experience by making it even easier for users to make VoIP (Voice over
Internet Protocol) and Video over IP calls, to share presence (availability) information with other users, to send
instant messages, and to exchange files.

Bria implements SIP-based standards, allowing users to work with a multitude of different VoIP servers and
service providers.

This release of Bria adds support for instant messaging and presence over XMPP.

Standard Telephone Features

The CounterPath Bria has all standard telephone features, including:

Call display and Message Waiting Indicator (MWI).

Speakerphone and Mute.

Redial, Hold, Do Not Disturb.

Call history – list of received, missed, and dialed calls.

Call transfer.

Six-party audio conferencing.

Three-party video conferencing.

Enhanced Features and Functions

The CounterPath Bria also supports the following features and functions:

Instant messaging and presence using the SIMPLE protocol or the XMPP protocol.

Managed contact list – importing and exporting contacts between Bria and other applications.

File transfer via an XMPP account.

Automatic detection and configuration of audio and video devices.

Acoustic echo cancellation, automatic gain control, voice activity detection.

Support for the following audio codecs:

AMR Wideband (G.722.2), Broadvoice-32, Broadvoice-32 FEC, DVI4, DVI4 Wideband, G.711aLaw,
G.711uLaw, G.723, G.726, G.729, GSM, iLBC, L16 PCM Wideband, Speex, Speex FEC, Speex Wideband,
Speex Wideband FEC.

Support for the following video codecs:

H.263, H.263+ 1998, H.264.
