8 - Trouble Shooting

Problem:
The lights labeled “Ethernet” and “Data” on a PLC module are not
flashing or a camera does not appear in the Search IP Camera
screen.

Both situations are caused by the cameras not properly
communicating with the PLC module connected to the router. Once
the communication is reliably established the cameras will appear in
the Search IP camera screen.

There are several site specific variables which can cause this. A few being:

• Extremely poor power wiring in the home.
• Unusual amount of “static” or “electrical noise” on the homes power grid.
• PLC module needs to be reset.

Trouble Shooting Steps:

a. Unplug all the PLC modules and cameras from the power outlet.
b. Plug the PLC module closest to the router into power and connect the network

cable to the PLC module and router. Make sure the communication cable is
properly plugged in at both ends. Verify you have plugged into a proper port on
the router or hub.

c. Plug only one camera PLC module into power. Wait 1 minute then power the

camera down and then back up and plug the camera network cable into the PLC
module.

d. Wait 3-5 minutes. This allows the modules to establish communication with each

other and allows the router to assign an IP address to the camera. The lights
should start to flash on both PLC modules indicating they are talking to each
other.

e. Once the lights are flashing on both modules go to the software and perform the

Search IP camera function again.

f. Once the first camera is added to the software. Plug the next camera PLC

module in and allow time for that module to establish communication. You do not
need to unplug the routers PLC module for the additional cameras. Perform this
same process one at a time for each camera. If the camera does not show up in
the search box move the camera to another power outlet and try this process one
more time.
