1. Introduction
The softw are, d esigned to ru n on Wind ow s 95/ 98/ N T/ 2000/ XP / 7, is d ivid ed into
three sep arate program s:
1. Base Station — This hand les the configu ration of the p hones, ad m inistrative op tions,
rep orts, and answ ers incom ing calls from the Listener.
2. Listener — This listens on a COM port for incom ing d ata from an em ergency p hone.
When a call com es in, a m essage is sent to the base station (if the base station is not
ru nning, it is started ). The base station then d isp lays the call on the alert screen.
3. Poller — The p oller w akes u p every so m any second s (see 8C, Statu s Tim er) and
checks to see if there are any p hones to p oll. If there are, the system inserts them
into a qu eu e and p olls.
