Do one of the following:

Type or paste your purchased Kofax Desktop license key into the “License key” field.

„

Click Evaluate to proceed without activating a license now (see Evaluating Kofax

Desktop on page 9). Then skip the next step.

Click Activate, and then click OK to clear the message that confirms successful license
activation.

Press F1 to view the Help, which gives you online assistance and information about Kofax
Desktop features, including details about the user interface. You can also use ScreenTips
to get brief text descriptions of user interface elements such as tab controls and toolbar
icons. To view ScreenTips, point to a user interface element and hover until the ScreenTip
appears.

Keep your Kofax Desktop license key in a secure location for future reference.

Evaluating Kofax Desktop

When you start Kofax Desktop the first time, an evaluation period goes into effect for 14 days or 50
saves, whichever occurs last. Thereafter, you must purchase a license to continue using Kofax
Desktop. During the evaluation period, you can use all of the product features without limitations.

While evaluation mode is in effect, a “save” is counted each time you scan a document and then
save, attach, insert, or submit it. While the evaluation period is in effect, the Kofax Desktop
Activation window appears each time you use Kofax Desktop. You can discontinue the evaluation
period at any time by activating your license. For instructions, see Starting Kofax Desktop the First
Time
on page 8.

Removing Kofax Desktop

This section explains how to remove Kofax Desktop from your computer. When you remove
Kofax Desktop, the license is automatically deactivated on your computer. You need a working
Internet connection to successfully remove Kofax Desktop and deactivate the product license.

X To remove Kofax Desktop

Close your Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook.

In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features on a
Windows Vista computer).

Select Kofax Desktop from the list of currently installed programs.

Click Remove (or Uninstall on a Windows Vista computer).

Click Yes in response to the confirmation message.

Click Yes or No to indicate your preference for removing user files, which include the

Kofax Desktop Administration settings, as well as user-defined profiles and theme
selections.

Tip

If you intend to reinstall Kofax Desktop later on the same computer, you may want to

click Yes to keep the user files.

When you are notified that the process is complete, click Finish.
The next time you restart the computer, the removal of Kofax Desktop is completed. You
can restart the computer now, or do so at your own convenience.
