1-4 Introduction

i.LON 100 server automatically have data points created for them (these are

called local data points, or NVLs). When you add dynamic network variables
to the i.LON 100 device, the i.LON 100 application automatically creates new

local data points. The i.LON 100 server can also read and write the values of
network variables on other L

W

ORKS

devices in the network. In order to do

this, you must create data points for these network variables (these are called

external data points, or NVEs). You can create external data points using the
i.LON 100 Configuration Plug-in, as described in the i.LON 100 User’s Guide:

Configuring the i.LON 100 Applications Using the i.LON 100 Configuration
Plug-in
or by using the SOAP/XML interface as described in the i.LON 100

Programmer’s Reference.

5. Configure the i.LON 100 server Applications – The i.LON 100 server contains

functional blocks used for scheduling, alarming, data logging, digital

input/output, type translation, and pulse meter reading applications. You

can configure these functional blocks using the i.LON 100 Configuration
Plug-in or the i.LON 100 Web pages as described in the i.LON 100 User’s

Guide: Configuring the i.LON 100 Applications Using the i.LON 100
Configuration Plug-in
and the i.LON 100 User’s Guide: Using the i.LON 100

Web Pages to Configure Applications and to Monitor and Control Data Points.
You can also configure the i.LON 100 server applications using the

SOAP/XML Interface of the i.LON 100 server. This interface is described in

the i.LON 100 Programmer’s Reference.

i.LON 100 Usage Scenarios

The i.LON 100 can be used in conjunction with the LonMaker tool, with a non-

LonMaker LNS application, or simply with a Web Browser. The capabilities of
the i.LON 100 in each of these situations is outlined below:
Using the i.LON 100 with the LonMaker Tool. When using the i.LON 100

with the LonMaker tool, the i.LON 100 Configuration Plug-in will be

launched when you configure the i.LON 100 device shape or any i.LON 100

functional block shape. The i.LON 100 configuration property is aware of
what functional blocks have been dropped in the LonMaker drawing, and will

only allow you to configure the applications corresponding to those functional
blocks that exist in the drawing.

Using the i.LON 100 with a non-LonMaker LNS Tool. When using the i.LON

100 with an LNS tool other than LonMaker, you can launch the i.LON 100

Configuration Plug-in by whatever method plug-ins are launched by that tool.
The i.LON 100 Configuration Plug-in will list all i.LON 100 applications; you

are responsible for configuring the correct applications.

Using the i.LON 100 without LNS. When using the i.LON 100 with no

available LNS tool, you can only access the i.LON 100 Configuration Web
pages. The i.LON 100 Configuration Web pages can be used to view and

modify (but not create) data points and to configure any of the i.LON 100
applications. An LNS tool such as the LonMaker tool must be used to add

the i.LON 100 to an LNS network and create any necessary network variable

connections.

i.LON 100 System Limits

The following sections document the limits of the i.LON 100 RNI capabilities and

of the applications that run on the i.LON 100.
