Introduction

1.1 Product Description

This new radiation shield provides complete protection to the eyes, thyroid and neck of x-ray personnel
while allowing full visibility and freedom of movement, especially during special procedures. It forms a
stationary window in front of the wearer's face. The head is free to move in any direction while the mask
remains fixed to the shoulders. Eyeglasses can be worn without any interference. When used with a lead
apron, the combination shields the entire body from scattered radiation.

The mask consists of a curved, optically clear, leaded-acrylic window mounted in a rugged plastic frame.
The windows 0.35 mm lead equivalence provides significant absorption (81.9 to 96.6%) of heavily filtered,
3-phase, diagnostic x-ray beams. A Velcro connection-closure makes the mask easy to put on and take
off.

1.2 Donning the Mask

The mask is held in place by attaching its soft Velcro-surfaced base to mating Velcro applied to the
shoulders of a lead apron.

The 56-515 X-Ray Mask (without apron) includes a kit for affixing the mating to your own lead apron.

In the 56-516 X-Ray Mask/Apron combination, the Velcro has been pre-sewn to the apron's shoulder
supports.

1.3 Maintenance

To remove smudges from the mask, wipe with a damp cloth. To remove stains, use a professional non-
abrasive plastic cleaner. If the lens fogs up, clear with any eyeglass defogger.

Avoid excessive exposure to heat or sunlight. To protect against scratches, store the mask so that the
lens does not touch any surface or object.
