When a resistor is installed at R5 and the thermocouple is grounded, there is a small current in the signal
wire. With extremely long wires or extremely small thermocouples, there may be enough resistance in the
wire to cause a small error. With long wires in a very noisy environment, large common mode signals can
exceed the common mode range of the analog board. A smaller resistor or larger capacitor at R5 will
rectify this problem.
