TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS

ENGINE PROBLEMS

Engine Will Not
Start

Possible Cause

Correction

Fuel valve lever
OFF.
Choke knob OPEN.

Engine switch OFF.

Out of fuel.
Bad fuel; generator
stored without
treating or
draining gasoline,
or refueled with
bad gasoline.
Low oil level
caused Oil Alert
to stop engine.
Spark plug faulty,
fouled, or
improperly gapped.
Spark plug wet
with fuel (flooded
engine).
Fuel filter clogged,
carburetor
malfunction,
ignition
malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.

Check control
positions.

Check fuel.

Check engine oil
level.

Remove and
inspect
spark plug.

Take generator to
an authorized
Alphagen
servicing dealer, or
refer to shop
manual.

Turn lever ON.

Move to CLOSED
unless engine is
warm.
Turn engine switch
to ON.
Refuel (p. 33).
Drain fuel tank and
carburetor (p. 50).
Refuel with fresh
gasoline (p. 33).

Add oil (p. 35).

Gap, or replace
spark plug (p. 43).

Dry and reinstall
spark plug.

Replace or repair
faulty components
as necessary.
