Air Filter Service

Clean the outer air filter element every 20 hours or
1 month (more frequently in harsh conditions).

To clean the outer air filter element:

1. FOLLOW SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE AND

ALLOW ENGINE TO COOL!

2. Remove the air filter cover by first removing

the air filter cover wing nut.

3. Remove the wing nut and washer holding

the air filter in place and remove the air filter
assembly (

4. Remove the outer foam air filter element.

5. Clean the outer element thoroughly with sol-

vent and allow to dry.

6. Saturate the outer element with fresh motor

oil, then squeeze with a cloth to remove any
excess oil.

7. Replace the outer air filter element, then

replace the air filter assembly, filter wing nut,
filter cover, and filter cover wing nut.

Note: To clean the air filter core, DO NOT
use solvent or any other cleaning solution.
Instead, use a soft brush to remove any par-
ticulate build-up.

Check the spark plug gap and adjust it if nec-
essary after every 100 hours of operation or 3
months.

To adjust the spark plug gap:

1. Disconnect the plug wire. With the provided

spark plug tool, remove the spark plug.

2. Carefully inspect the plug for signs of wear.

If there is pronounced coloration, excessive
corrosion or deposits, or damage to any com-
ponent of the plug, replace it.

3. Using a spark plug gap gauge (available at

most automotive stores), measure the cur-
rent spark plug gap.

Note: The gap is the distance between
the side electrode and the center electrode

(Figure 22).

4. Using a flat blade screw driver or similar tool,

bend the side electrode up or down as neces-
sary to achieve the correct spark plug gap of
0.7-0.8mm Take care not to damage the plug
when doing this.

5. Reinstall the plug with the provided spark

plug tool and reconnect the spark plug wire.
