System Requirements

Windows

• FireWire 800 requires Windows 2000 or XP operating

system and FireWire 800 (9-pin) equipped computer

• Pentium III, 500 Mhz equivalent processor or higher

• 2000 Professional, XP Professional, or XP Home Edition

• 128MB RAM or more as required by operating system

• CD-ROM drive

• Internet connection (for system updates)

All references to Windows 2000 actually refer specifically to Windows 2000
Professional. Retrospect Express does not work with the Server editions of
these operating systems.

USB 1.1 is slower than USB 2 or FireWire.

Interface Requirements

• USB: Available USB 1.1 or 2.0 port

• FireWire: Available FireWire 400 or FireWire 800 ports

Handling Precautions

Handle your drive with care! Follow the precautions listed here or
you could damage your drive and void your warranty. Review the
Maxtor Limited Warranty Card, included in the box, for more
information.

The following precautions can prevent loss of data:

• Do not bump, jar, drop the drive or move while in operation.

• Do not set the drive on its side without using the vertical

stand as it could fall over and cause damage.

• Do not remove any cables or power cords without properly

disconnecting the drive through the operating system.

• Do not set any liquids or drinks on the drive. Liquids will

damage the internal electronics.

• Do not attempt to open the drive’s case. This will void

your warranty.
