Maximo Essentials V7.1 - Implementer’s Guide

For more detail about implementing cron tasks Please refer to the Maximo Asset
Management Essentials System Administration guide:

System Administrator Guide Server (mam71_sys_admin_guide.pdf)

5.6.8 Create Backup/Image of the environment

After the installation is complete, it is advisable to create an image of your
environment, backup procedures depend on the size of your database and the
type of operation you are running. For instance, you coudl back up to:

Hard Disk Drive: Lets you restore your system quickly

Tape Drive; Slower, but you can keep multiple tapes of backups

CDs, DVDs, diskettes : Limited capacity, but is useful for smaller databases,
archive files, or specific executables.

5.6.9 Automate the Backup Procedure

Schedule and regularly perform system and database backups. It is advisable
you perform system restores from the production environment to your
development/acceptance environment on regular intervals to test this procedure.

5.6.10 Assess the server workload

In having taken the sizing considerations of the previous chapter into account it is
advisable to monitor the performance of Maximo on a continuous basis. This step
will also form part of the user acceptance testing. However there are many
methods you can implement to improve and maintain the application’s
performance on a continuous basis.

If your implementation increases in size, an increase in workload or system
enlargement over time consider load balancing the server environments, server
clustering is a recommended solution by which you can distribute user loads over
various application servers to maintain consistent server performance.

5.6.11 Client Local/Regional Settings Properties

If the users are based in one location, ensure that the regional settings of their
workstations are matching to that of their region, a common issue could be date
and time format conflicts.
