Using sound effects

[Note]

≥ When connected with headphones or the Rear Music Port (

➜ page 32),

Surround Music and the following sound effects may not be available or
have no effect. (Excluding Sound Field Control: HEAVY, CLEAR or
SOFT)

≥ You may experience a reduction in sound quality when these sound

effects are used with some sources. If this occurs, turn the sound effects
off.

≥ If you turn on Dolby Pro Logic II, Sound Field Control (MOVIE, SPORT

or MUSIC) is canceled.

To enjoy the following sound quality settings, ensure that Surround Music
(

➜ page 14) is turned off.

Press [SFC].

Each time you press the button:
FLAT:

Cancel (no effect is added) (factory preset).

MOVIE:

Use this mode when playing movie software.

SPORT: Simulates sound to make you feel like you are at a sports event.
MUSIC: Adds surround effects to stereo sources.
HEAVY: Adds punch to rock.
CLEAR: Clarifies higher sounds.
SOFT:

For background music.

≥ To check the current setting, press [SFC].
≥ MOVIE, SPORT and MUSIC are not available when Dolby Pro Logic II

is on, or when playing a disc recorded with a multi-channel source.

≥ You can adjust the volume of the surround speakers to get the best

surround effect (

➜ page 31, Adjusting the volume of each speaker:

Speaker level adjustments).

This applies to discs where the dialogue is recorded in the center
channel.
You can make the sound of the center speaker seem like it is coming from
within the television.

Press and hold [—C.FOCUS].

Each time you press and hold the button:
C FOCUS ON

≥ This does not work when Surround Music (

➜ page 14) or Sound Field

Control (MOVIE, SPORT or MUSIC) is turned on.

≥ This also works when Dolby Pro Logic II is turned on.

Dolby Pro Logic II is an advanced decoder that derives 5-channel
surround (Left and Right Front, Center, Left and Right Surround) from
stereo sound sources, whether or not it has been specifically Dolby
Surround encoded.

Press [

ÎPLII].

Each time you press the button:
Movie:

Movie software, recorded in Dolby Surround.

Music: Stereo sources
Off:

Cancel

≥ This works only in DVD/CD mode.
≥ “ÎPLII” lights when there is effect.
≥ Dolby Pro Logic II is canceled when Surround Music is turned on.

You can adjust the amount of bass. The unit automatically selects the
most suitable setting according to the type of playing source.

Press [SUBWOOFER LEVEL].

≥ The setting you make is retained, and recalled every time you play the

same type of source, except when Sound Field Control (MOVIE,
SPORT or MUSIC) is turned on.

When Sound Field Control (MOVIE, SPORT or MUSIC) is on, the
factory presets are as follows:
– MOVIE: SUB W 4
– SPORT: SUB W 2
– MUSIC: SUB W 1
