Chapter 4: BIOS setup

Configure SATA as [IDE]

Sets the configuration for the Serial ATA connectors supported by the

Southbridge chip. Configuration options: [IDE] [RAID] [AHCI]
If you want to use the Serial ATA hard disk drives as Parallel ATA physical

storage devices, set this item to [IDE].
Set this item to [RAID], if you want to create a RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, or

RAID 5 configurations using the Intel

®

Matrix Storage Manager or if you want

to create a RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1 configurations using the LSI Logic

Embedded SATA RAID Setup Utilit

Set the item Configure SATA as to [RAID] if you want to use or configure the

SATA connectors under SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 SP1 operating

system environment (only LSI RAID supports Linux). Refer to Chapter 5 and

Chapter 6 for details on how to set a SATA RAID.

The AHCI allows the onboard storage driver to enable advanced Serial ATA

features that enhance storage performance on random workloads by allowing

the drive to internally optimize the order of commands.
If you want the Serial ATA hard disk drives to use the Advanced Host

Controller Interface (AHCI), set this item to [AHCI]. For details on AHCI, go

The SATA controller is set to Native mode when this item is set to [RAID] or

[AHCI].

Hard Disk Write Protect [Disabled]

Allows you to disable or enable device write protection. This will be effective only if

the device is accessed through BIOS. Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled]

IDE Detect Time Out (Sec) [35]

Selects the time out value (in seconds) for detecting ATA/ATAPI devices.

Configuration options: [0] [5] [10] [15] [20] [25] [30] [35]

ATA(PI) 80Pin Cable Detection [Host]

Select the mechanism for detecting 80Pin ATA(PI) Cable.

Configuration options: [Host & Device] [Host] [Device]
