TROUBLE POSSIBLE

CAUSE

PROBABLE

REMEDY

PUMP STOPS OR
FAILS TO DELIVER
RATED FLOW OR
PRESSURE

Air leak in suction line.

Lining of suction hose collapsed.

Leaking or worn seal or pump gasket.

Strainer clogged.

Suction intake not submerged at
proper level or sump too small.

Impeller or other wearing parts worn or
damaged.

Impeller clogged.

Pump speed too slow.

Discharge head too high.

Suction lift too high.

Correct leak.

Replace suction hose.

Check pump vacuum. Replace leaking or
worn seal or gasket.

Check strainer and clean if necessary.

Check installation and correct submergence
as needed.

Replace worn or damaged parts. Check
that impeller is properly centered and
rotates.

Free impeller of debris.

Check driver output; check belts or couplings
for slippage.

Install bypass line.

Measure lift w/vacuum gauge. Reduce lift
and/or friction losses in suction line.

PUMP REQUIRES
TOO MUCH POWER

Pump speed too high

Discharge head too low.

Liquid solution too thick.

Bearing(s) frozen.

Check driver output; check that sheaves or
motor rpm are correctly sized.

Adjust discharge valve.

Dilute if possible.

Disassemble pump and check bearing(s).

PUMP CLOGS
FREQUENTLY

Liquid solution too thick.

Discharge flow too slow.

Suction check valve or foot valve
Clogged or binding.

Dilute if possible.

Open discharge valve fully to increase flow
rate, and run power source at maximum
governed speed.

Clean valve.
