LEAK INSPECTION

1. Start the engine and run the A/C system on maximum for 5 to 10 minutes to circulate the dye.

The system must contain enough refrigerant to operate the compressor and circulate the

dye in order to find leaks.

2. Turn off the engine. Inspect possible leak areas with a UV or blue light lamp.

For best results,

use a high-intensity Tracerline

®

lamp and wear fluorescence-enhancing glasses. Leaks will

glow a bright yellow-green. The fluorescence will be brightest under low light conditions.

3. To find smaller leaks, operate the A/C system over the next 24 to 48 hours and reinspect.

4.

Cleanup/reinspection—After the leaks are repaired, clean the remaining dye from the leak sites

with Tracerline GLO-AWAY™ or a shop cleaner. Check with the lamp to be sure all dye residue

has been removed. Residual dye could give a false leak indication.

5. Run the A/C system another 5 to 10 minutes and reinspect with the lamp. No glow means all

leaks have been repaired.

DYE DOSE

The BigEZ injector generates more torque than the EZ-Shot injection gun, making the BigEZ easier

to inject and allowing for more accurate dosing.

If known, use the amount of lubricant in the A/C system to determine the dye dose. Each line on the

cartridge equals 1/8 fl oz (3.7 ml) of dye.

• When using

TP-9770 universal dye only, attach the adapter/purge fitting to the low side service

port on the vehicle and connect the quick coupler attached to the hose assembly.

• When using

TP-9750 mineral oil dye, connect the TP-9746 R-12 hose assembly to the low side

access fitting on the vehicle.

3.

To inject the dye or lubricant—turn the plunger handle on the BigEZ injector or squeeze the

handle on the EZ-Shot injection gun. See "

Dye Dose" to determine the recommended dosage.

4. If excessive resistance is met, the access fitting has not been opened fully. Check that the

hose-fitting connection is tight.

5. Disconnect the quick coupler from the service port and wipe both clean.
