3D Gaming

3D gaming involves complex visualizations and rapid movements that require maxi-
mum processor performance and top-of-the-line graphics capabilities. The Power
Mac G5 provides a robust platform that not only supports the latest in 3D technology,
but also delivers a great gaming experience.

Avid gamers know that every frame per second matters. With the addition of the
latest graphics interface, AGP 8X Pro, the Power Mac G5 combines superfast graphics
performance and fast 64-bit PowerPC G5 processors to deliver more frames per second
at higher resolutions—all with better complexity and texturing—than ever before.

Quake III Arena
Leading games such as id Software’s Quake III Arena highlight the benefits of the
Power Mac G5. The de facto industry standard for 3D game benchmarking, Quake III
Arena pushes both the system processor and graphics card to their limits—providing
a reliable representation of graphics performance.

The Power Mac G5 outperformed the Pentium 4–based PC by more than 50 frames per

second at a resolution of 1024 by 768 and 32-bit color, demonstrating the benefits of the

advanced PowerPC G5 processor.

Quake III Arena was configured with default settings using Demo Four. All systems used the best graphics cards available
from the system manufacturer at the time of testing. The Power Mac G5 systems and Dell Dimension XPS used 128MB
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics cards, the Dell Precision 650 used a 128MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 1000 graphics card, and the
Alienware Aurora used a 256MB ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card.
