Tape Library Error Diagnosis

If the TACL PARAM ZRPC^RPC^FILE exists, RPCINFO uses the value of that
PARAM instead of $SYSTEM.ZRPC.RPC as the name of the RPC file.

Tape Library Error Diagnosis

This subsection illustrates how to use MEDIACOM commands and EMS events to help
diagnose certain errors that can occur during communications with the tape library.

Communicating With the Library Server

If a MEDIACOM STATUS TAPEMOUNT command is executed while $ZSVR is waiting
for a reply from the ACSLS library server, this is returned:

MC>STATUS TAPEMOUNT

Tape Tape Label Write

Mount Name Type Node or Device Prot Action Needed

----- ------ ------ ---------------- ---- -----------------

648 *ZSSI ANSI \SYS01 NO NO ACTION NEEDED

1 tape mount returned.

*ZSSI, in the tape name field, indicates that normal communication is taking place with
the tape library. If the request should be stopped, use the REJECT TAPEMOUNT
command to cancel the request.

Retryable Error

If the ACSLS library server returns a retryable error, $ZSVR generates an EMS event
containing tape server process error 1011 (SSI retryable error). After a three minute
delay, it retries the request. If a MEDIACOM STATUS TAPEMOUNT command is
executed during this three minute interval, this is returned:

MC>STATUS TAPEMOUNT

Tape Tape Label Write

Mount Name Type Node or Device Prot Action Needed

----- ------ ------ ---------------- ---- -----------------

648 *RETRY ANSI \SYS01 NO NO ACTION NEEDED

1 tape mount returned.

*RETRY, in the tape name field, is used to distinguish this type of request. When the
request is retried, the tape name becomes *ZSSI. See the previous example. If the
request is not retried, use the REJECT TAPEMOUNT command to cancel the request.
