Table 19 Host mode options for long-distance remote copy connection (continued)

When to select this options

Host mode options

No

Use this option combining with host mode option 49.

Use this option if you want to fix the response time of the host I/O due to long
distance (approximately 100 km) between MCU and RCU for the Cnt Ac-S Z
pairs without switches.

Host mode options 49, 50, and 51 are enabled for the 8UFC or 16UFC package.

Switch connection—up to three optical fiber cables are connected using switches. Up to two
switches can be used, as shown below.

Set port topology to the following:

NL port: Fab on, FC-AL

N port: Fab on, Point-to-Point

Some switch vendors require F port (for example, McData ED5000).

Extender connection—channel extenders and switches are used to connect the devices across
large distances, as shown below.

Set port topology to the following:

NL/FL port: Fab on, FC-AL

F port: Fab on, Point-to-Point

Best practice is to create at least two independent data paths (one per cluster) between the
main and remote system for hardware redundancy for this critical element.

When 4,000 pairs or more are used, we recommend that you restrict the number of pairs
when creating pairs, so that 4,000 pairs or less use one physical path, to distribute load on
the physical path.
