Getting Started Pages

When first run, HP ESO displays the Introduction page in the Getting Started section. The left
navigation pane displays links to all of the various HP ESO pages.

IMPORTANT:

Before using the HP ESO software, it is highly recommended that you go to the

Configuration page to configure a few initial parameters that are recommended for best optimization
of SQL Server.

Quick Start Guide

Because of the new session-based usage model in place for ESO 2.0 and later, follow the step
below before using HP ESO:
1.

Click Enter Admin Session on the left column to get an exclusive HP ESO Admin Session.

2.

Save SQL Credentials in SQL Server Login page with the Connect button.

3.

View various SQL settings by selecting the links on the left column. Perform Data Collection
from the Configuration page to generate recommendations. Before performing Data Collection,
make sure all the SQL instances are under workload stress as expected in real world.

4.

Click Extended Session on the top left corner to reset the HP ESO Admin Session timer, when
it is about to expire. HP ESO Admin Session time can be set from SQL Server Login page

ESO Session Configuration section.

5.

Click Exit Session on the top left corner, which will end the ESO Admin Session and clears all
SQL credentials. Users need to re-enter these SQL credentials when running HP ESO again.
When an HP ESO Admin Session expires, all SQL credentials will be cleared automatically.

Remember, anytime you mouse over a setting or section with a cursor + question mark symbol
( ), clicking on that symbol brings up a floating help text bar. This feature is extremely useful in
learning about the many settings that HP ESO provides. This feature is shown in the following
examples.
