Many actions, such as the Security options for HP personal computers, or the user account management of the HP
Toptools Remote Control card are also available within the property or management pages of the devices. These
actions are available from the Actions menu to provide quick access, or enable actions against multiple devices,
rather than against a single selected device.

For actions enabled for HP products, the HP management agent must be installed on the HP product to enable the
enhanced management control. (It may be necessary to reboot the device after agent installation.) Without the HP
agent software installed, Toptools will not be able to perform advanced management functions, and will manage the
device as it does other non-HP products.

Toptools property pages (menu item “Properties”) are the most common action executed. When the property pages
are opened, Toptools checks with MEDS to determine the device’s type and supported protocols to display the
correct pages. Toptools attempts to contact the device to provide dynamic information directly supplied by the
device. If the device is inaccessible, Toptools will provide information from data that has been stored in MEDS by
the inventory collection process.

The following sequence of graphics shows Toptools property pages for an HP Vectra PC running Windows 2000
Professional.
