NIS Settings

The HP NAS VA supports Network Information System (NIS). NIS maintains a central database
of names and locations of resources on a network. NIS was formerly known as Yellow Pages.

NIS Requirements

If a master NIS server is to be used as the primary NIS method, the Master NIS server must be
located on the same subnet
as the NIS client (your HP NAS VA).
If the Master NIS sever cannot be located on the same subnet as the client, a Slave NIS server
must be configured to work in conjunction with the Master NIS server in order to get proper client
NIS binding.
Please consult the HP -UX systems administrator guides and/or sam help for further information
on proper configuration and setup of a NIS network.

Enabling and Disabling NIS

To enable or disable NIS:

1. Using the NAS web interface, click the Configuration tab.
2. Navigate down the System Configuration tree to the Networking Settings > TCP/IP and

NIS.

3. Check Disable NIS or Enable NIS (Disable NIS is the default).
4. If you are enabling NIS, enter the NIS domain name in the NIS Domain Name field.
