Click the Back-End LU node. The Back-End LUs list appears in the list area. The following properties
are displayed for each back-end LU.

Description

Property

The row number.

No

The name of the back-end LU.
If the back-end LU is presented to the VSM server through an FC fabric switch, the
name is the world wide port name (WWPN) of a storage system that is exposing
the back-end LU, concatenated with the LUN. One of the following icons appears
beside each back-end LU name:

—A back-end LU with present status. For information about statuses, see

Status below.

—A back-end LU with failed status.

—A back-end LU with absent status.

—A back-end LU that is present, but is in a failover state.

—A back-end LU with dual access paths and present status. An access path

is a connectivity path between the VSM and the back-end LU. For information
about a back-end LU’s access paths, see “

—A back-end LU with dual access paths and failed status.

—A back-end LU with dual access paths and absent status.

—A setup back-end LU with present status. A setup back-end LU is a back-

end LU on which one of the mirror copies of the VSM setup virtual disk resides.
The setup virtual disk is dedicated to storing VSM configuration metadata.
During the VSM installation process, VSM automatically saves and maintains
at least three copies of the setup virtual disk.

—A setup back-end LU with failed status.

—A setup back-end LU that is present, but is in a failover state.

—A setup back-end LU with dual access paths and present status.

— A setup back-end LU with dual access paths and absent status.

—A setup back-end LU with dual access paths and failed status.

Name

The status of the back-end LU. Possible values:

Present—The VSM server recognizes the back-end LU on the SAN.

Absent—The VSM server does not recognize the back-end LU on the SAN.

Failed—The VSM server recognizes the back-end LU on the SAN, but cannot
access the back-end LU.

Status

The LUN number. A storage system controller may present multiple logical units
of the storage system through different physical ports.

LUN

Yes indicates that the back-end LU is a member of a storage pool. When a user
adds a back-end LU to a storage pool, the VSM server writes a signature on the
back-end LU, which includes the domain name. The back-end LU now belongs to
that domain and can only be managed by connecting to the VSM server that
manages that domain.
If a back-end LU is not yet configured and contains data that is already in use,
you can import the back-end LU to a VSM virtual disk and bring it under VSM
management (see “

Importing back-end LU data to a VSM virtual disk

” on page 63).
