Format

Use this function if you want to delete all fi les completely or to correct problems on the storage media.

Do not remove the recording medium or perform any other operation (such as turning off the
power) during formatting. Also, be sure to use the provided AC adapter, as the recording medium
may be corrupted if the battery becomes exhausted during formatting.
If the recording medium becomes corrupted, format it again.

Submenu items

Memory: Formats the built-in storage media. (SMX-C24 only)
Card: Formats the memory card.

Press the Control button (

/

) "Format" OK button.

A message appears asking about formatting the memory card.

2. Select "Yes."

The format is executed with a message.

Press the MENU button to exit the menu.

File No.

File numbers are assigned to recorded fi les in the order they were recorded.

Submenu items

Series: Assigns fi le numbers in sequence even after you've replaced the

memory card with another one, formatted the card, or deleted all
fi les. The fi le number is reset when a new folder is created.

Reset: Resets the fi le number to 0001 even after you've formatted the

card, deleted all the fi les, or inserted a new memory card.

) "File No." OK button.

Select the desired submenu item with the Control button (

/

)

OK button.

3.

Press the MENU button to exit the menu.

Do not format the storage media on a PC or other device.
Make sure to format the storage media on this camcorder.
Format the memory card in the following cases:
- If the memory card is new and has never been used.
- If the memory card has been formatted by or recorded on by other devices
- If this camcorder cannot read the memory card
A memory card with the protection tab set to lock can not be formatted.
If there is no storage media inserted, it can not be selected and it will be dimmed on the menu.


When you set "File No." to "Series", each fi le is assigned a different number to avoid duplicating
fi le names. This is convenient when you want to manage your fi les on a PC.
