Entering Text

Text Input Methods

Your device offers several text input methods:

Swype: Swype is a new text input method that allows you to

enter words by gliding your finger over the virtual QWERTY

keyboard, lifting your finger between words. You can also enable

Word prediction, to match your key touches to words

automatically.

Android keyboard: Enter text by touching keys on a virtual

QWERTY keyboard. Android keyboard includes predictive text,

which matches your key touches to common words so you can

select a word to insert it into your text.

Samsung keypad: Enter text by touching keys on a virtual

QWERTY keyboard. Samsung keypad includes optional XT9

predictive text, which matches your key touches to common

words so you can select a word to insert it into your text.

Voice input: Use the Voice Input option of any keyboard or

application to speak your entries.

Virtual QWERTY Keyboard

Your device offers virtual QWERTY keyboards for text entry.
Use the keyboard to enter letters, punctuation, numbers, and
other characters into text entry fields or applications.

Touch any text entry field to display a keyboard at the bottom
of the screen. By default, when you rotate the device, the
screen updates to display the keyboard at the bottom of the
screen.

Choosing the Text Entry Method

You can choose a default entry method in Settings, and
choose a method at any time from the System bar.

For information about choosing the default entry method, see
“Current input method” on page 121.

To change the entry method while entering text, touch

in the System bar, then choose a new keyboard, or voice
input.
