Reducing the Time Required for Positioning

Applicable modes:

You can reduce the time required for positioning by copying the predicted satellite information
(GPS assist data) of GPS satellites required for positioning to the camera in advance.

To acquire/update the GPS assist data, you can use the “GPS Assist Tool” on your PC, or use the
Wi-Fi function.

GPS assist data cannot be used if the clock has not been set.

The validity period of GPS assist data is 30 days.

GPS assist data is updated once a day.

The service that provides GPS assist data may change or end without notice.
(This service is as of January 2013)

Using the “GPS Assist Tool” will download the GPS assist data from the internet and update the
GPS assist data on the unit.

PC that can be used

The PC that can connect to the internet is required.

If the “GPS Assist Tool” cannot be used, download the GPS assist data from the support site and
copy it to the card.
To connect to the support site, double-click “GPSASIST.HTM” that is displayed when connecting the
unit to a PC, or copying the “GPS Assist Tool” to the card. For details about downloading the GPS
assist data, etc., refer to the support site.

Update using the “GPS Assist Tool”

For Windows:

Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8

For Mac:

OS X v10.4 ~ v10.8

Changing the proxy settings

Perform the proxy settings only if the GPS assist data cannot be updated successfully when
the PC is connected to the Internet via proxy.
1 Launch the “GPS Assist Tool”, and click [Settings] on the screen of the PC.
2 Perform the proxy settings

For Windows:
Enable [Use proxy server.] and change the settings.

For Mac:
Change the settings using the network settings screen of the displayed system environment
settings screen.
