8. Note the dotted lines in the following illustration to properly position the new RAID card near the longer

the slot until it is securely seated and its bracket also is secured by the riser card assembly 1.

Figure 64. Installing the RAID card

9. If your server has more than eight hard disk drives, connect two mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal cables

to the RAID card first and then install an expander card. See “Installing or removing the expander
card” on page 110.

10. Connect cables depending on your specific server configuration. See “Mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal

cable connections” on page 43.

11. Reinstall the riser card assembly 1. See “Replacing the riser card assembly 1” on page 159.

What to do next:

• To work with another piece of hardware, go to the appropriate section.

• To complete the installation, go to “Completing the parts replacement” on page 174. Then, configure

RAID for your server. See “Configuring RAID” on page 70.

Removing the RAID card

Attention: Do not open your server or attempt any repair before reading and understanding “Safety information”
on page iii
and “Guidelines” on page 81.

This topic provides instructions on how to remove the RAID card.

Attention: Ensure that you back up your data before removing the RAID card because you might need to
reconfigure RAID and reinstall the operating system after removing the RAID card.

Before you begin, print all the related instructions or ensure that you can view the PDF version on another
computer for reference.

Notes:

• If you remove the RAID card, you will lose the advanced hardware RAID functions. Also, the server must

have a RAID card installed to support more than eight hard disk drives.
