To replace the backplane for server models with eight 3.5-inch hard disk drive bays, do the following:

1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all

power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server.

2. If the server is installed in a rack cabinet, remove the server from the rack cabinet and place it on a flat,

clean, and static-protective surface. See the Rack Installation Instructions that comes with the server.

3. Remove the server cover. See “Removing the server cover” on page 83.

4. Locate the backplane. See “Components of server models with eight 3.5-inch hard disk drive bays”

on page 33.

5. Remove all the installed 3.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drives and dummy trays (if any) from the hard disk

drive bays. See “Installing or replacing a hot-swap hard disk drive” on page 148.

6. Record the cable connections on the backplane and then disconnect all cables from the backplane.

7. Press each of the two latches on the chassis in the direction as shown until the latch snaps into the

open position and will not interfere with lifting up the backplane.
