Notifying the mother board of the fault

To operate the system after removing redundant EPS-R and cooling fans, it is
necessary to update SMC board information by executing “Sensor Data and
LCD Setup Tool” and then to deactivate the redundant EPS-R unit sensor or
cooing fan sensor.

Deactivating the alarm buzzer activated by the occurrence of a
power or cooling fan fault

After detecting a EPS-R unit or cooling fan fault, the SMC board sounds an
alarm buzzer. This buzzer sounds only to indicate that a fault has occurred, and
it does not sound during degenerate operation. If the alarm buzzer sound hin-
ders any operations such as server recovery, the buzzer can be stopped
temporarily by using “Sensor Data and LCD Setup Tool”.

NOTE: This function only deactivates the sounding alarm buzzer, and it
does not deactivate fault detection. The alarm buzzer will sound as usual, if
a fault occurs in the same section again or in other sections. When AC input
power is disconnected, operations will also be reset. Therefore, it is unnec-
essary to turn the buzzer back on.

Setting the sleep switch to “Enabled” (or “Disabled”)

The server allows sleep mode to be used by adopting an ACPI-applicable oper-
ating system such as Microsoft Windows 2000.
For the operation of the sleep mode, refer to the operating manual accompany-
ing the operating system.
To use the sleep switch, it must be set to “Enabled” using “Sensor Data and
LCD Setup Tool”. This switch is set to “Disabled” as the default.

Changing the number of CPUs

The CPU fan sensors are monitored by the mother board. Setting for these sen-
sors is not automatic, and it requires the use of “Sensor Data and LCD Setup
Tool”.
For example, for a single-CPU configuration, since the fan sensors for addi-
tional CPUs are set to “Disabled”, just adding CPUs does not activate the
corresponding sensors since they remain disabled. If the number of CPUs is
changed, sensor information must be updated using “Sensor Data and LCD
Setup Tool”.
