4.1 Populating the Contact List
At any time, but particularly when you first deploy Bria, you may want to populate the contact list with contacts
from an external source.
Synchronizing with the Mac Address Book
You can populate the Bria contact list by synchronizing with your Mac Address book. When you start Bria,
contacts are fetched from the address book. When you add or modify a contact in Bria, the contact is copied to
the Mac Address book. Similarly, when you add or modify a contact in the Mac Address book, the contact is
copied to Bria.
To synchronize with the Mac Address book, set the Bria contact storage method to this value. See page 90.
Setting up the Mac Address Book
To use the Mac Address book effectively, make sure that softphone addresses in that address book are correctly
labeled. The addresses must be of type “Phone” and the address label must the “softphone” (all lower case).
You can create a “softphone” custom address label within the Address book.
In addition, if you have an XMPP account, any Jabber addresses in the Mac Address book must be set up in
entries of the type “Phone” with the label “jid” (in lower case).
Switching to the Mac Address Book
If you started using Bria with contact storage set to Local and then want to switch to the Mac Address book, you
can export the contacts currently stored locally in Bria and then import them into the Mac Address book. Then
when you switch the Bria contact storage method to Mac Address book, these contacts will reappear along with
all the other contacts from the Mac Address book. See below for information on import and export.
Importing Contacts
You can populate the Bria contact list by importing from an external file or files. The new contacts will be
added to the existing contacts.
Importing
You can import a contact list from:
• A comma-separated file. Use this method to import from a Microsoft® Excel® file. You will first have to
set up the file; see below.
• A vCard file (*.vcf file). A vCard is an electronic business card that is often attached to an e-mail.
