Dragging brake

See DRAGGING BRAKES

Brake drum heat checked:
• Out-of-round brake drum

Replace drum (3)

• Eccentric mounting of drum

Correct as required (3)

• Loose wheel bearing

Correct as required

• Glazed linings

Deglaze or replace linings (5)

• Improper friction materials for vehicle type and vocation

Consult dealer for proper friction levels

• Overworked brake

Check brake balance (2)

• Driver abuse

Correct as required

• Wrong drum type

Replace with correct drum type (3)

• Defective brake lining

Replace lining (5)

• Debris between lining and drum

Clean, remove dirt and debris (3)

• Performing downgrade braking using light drag

Use snub method on downgrades

Excessive scoring of drum:
• Soft drum

Replace drum (3)

Excessive lining wear
