WIRING SIZE AND TYPE

Proper wire size and type for your application may be obtained from American Boat and Yacht Council
(ABYC) Electrical Standards, Engine Manufacturing Standards, or contact your local marine parts
distributor. Always use properly waterproofed crimp type insulated terminals for all connections. Assure
that all connections are tight and that there is no stress or twists in any wiring.

MOUNTING LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION

If this switch is a replacement for an existing switch, remove the positive wire from the battery before
attempting installation. Check condition of all wires and re-attach. Switch should be located on a fl at
surface high in the bilge allowing for the shortest possible wires to the engines’ starter(s). This 12V switch
is rated at 230 amps continuous duty and at 300 amps momentary duty.

WIRING FOR ALTERNATOR FIELD DISCONNECT CIRCUIT

The switch contains an alternator fi eld disconnect which is a microswitch that is actuated when the switch
is in the Off (0) position. This feature interrupts the alternator fi eld, preventing electrical surges which could
destroy alternator diodes or auxiliary equipment. Diodes of alternators with internal regulators should be
protected by installing a battery isolator. The function of the selector switch will not be affected if the fi eld
circuit disconnect terminals are not used.

WIRING CHANGE AT REGULATOR

Remove regulator fi eld wire (“F” terminal connects to alternator) and connect it to one of the battery switch
fi eld terminals. Connect a new #14 AWG wire from the other switch fi eld terminal to the regulator “F”
terminal. (Figure 1)

WIRING CHANGE AT ALTERNATOR

Remove alternator fi eld wire (“F” terminal connects to regulator) and connect it to one of the battery switch
fi eld terminals. Connect a new #14 AWG wire from the other switch fi eld terminal to the alternator “F”
terminal. (Figure 2)

BATTERY CONNECTIONS

Refer to Figure 3 when installing one switch in a single engine application.

MOUNTING

Fasten using three fasteners appropriate for the surface material you are mounting to.

OPERATION
CAUTION:

Do not turn the switch to Off (0) when the engine is running.
This selector switch allows the use of one battery for engine starting and one battery for auxiliary electrical
equipment. Batteries may be placed in parallel by switching to 1+2 (Both) for emergency use.

CHARGING

The position of the switch determines which battery is being charged when the engine is running. Position 1+2
(Both) will charge both batteries.

BATTERY SELECTION

0 (Off): Complete disconnect of batteries.
1: Connection to battery one only.
1+2 (Both): Connection to both batteries.
2: Connection to battery two only.

ONE-YEAR WARRANTY

This product carries the standard Attwood one-year warranty. See Product Catalog or attwoodmarine.com
