8.0 FastBreak Examples

This chapter will run through two typical FastBreak studies, running the program, looking
at the output files and looking at the FNU file in FastTrack. Note: Your results may be
somewhat different because of changes in the trading family since the manual was
written.

Note: If you need to terminate a FastBreak run, use the Cancel button at the bottom of
the Summary Grid screen. There will be a delay as FastBreak finishes the current test
case. You will know the button has been selected because a message will be displayed.
Users may need to clear the Windows tool bar at the bottom of the screen to see the
Cancel button. See your Windows manual on how to move or hide the Window tool
bar.

First Run

This example will evaluate all ranking periods from 2 - 50 days using the Fidelity Select
family. The buy ranking period will be set equal to the sell ranking period using the “Set
sell rank = buy rank” parameter. No stops or buy filters will be used.

1. Launch FastBreak

2. Find the Fidelity Select family by typing “Select” in the Families available for selec-

tion box

3. Find the Fidelity money market fund by typing FDRXX in the Money Market Fund

box

4. Verify “Exclude Money Market from Ranking” is unchecked and set “Money Market

Min Hold” to 30 days

5. Go to the Strategy Tab

6. Use the “Buy and sell strategy” pull down menu to select Buy and sell using rank

7. Select 1 fund to hold in “# funds”

8. Set “STRF Min Hold” to 30 days (The Fidelity Select Funds have a transaction fee of

0.75% if held less than 30 days)

9. Set “User Min Hold” to 30 days. (We want to hold a fund for at lest 30 days to avoid

the short term redemption fee (STRF)

10. Select “Top %” of 50
