Select the preferred item by pressing A ▼ and press SELECT.

• In the case of the main unit, select the item using the joystick.

■ When “1 Still Mode” is selected

1 Automatic (Factory preset)

Select this setting in general. “Frame still” and “Field still" will automatically be
switched.

2 Field

Select this setting when jittering occurs in the pictures even when “Automatic”
is selected.

■ When “ 2 Audio during Search” is selected

1 On (Factory preset)

Select this setting to hear sounds during rapid advance at step 1. (Select “Off
if you are bothered by these sounds.)

2 Off

Select when you do not want sound during rapid advance at step 1.

■ When “3 TV Mode (4:3)” is selected

1 Pan & Scan (Factory preset)

Video material for wide-screen will be played back in the Pan & Scan style (the

left and right edges are cut off). Those not formatted in the Pan & Scan style

will be played back in the letterbox style.

2 Letterbox

Video material for wide-screen will be played back in the letterbox style (black

bands appear at top and bottom of screen).

■ When “4 D. (Dynamic) Range Compression” is selected

1 Off (Factory preset)

Normal audio range is selected.

2 On

Select this setting to enjoy listening to dynamic sound even on a low volume.

This is useful for late-night listening. [This function only works with Dolby

Digital (AC-3) DVDs.]

Dynamic range is the difference in volume between the quietest and loudest

sounds heard. Dynamic Range Compression limits the difference in levels to
give a more consistent level for listening at low volume. This is useful late at

night, for example.
