Set Up a Repeater Unit

Use a wired Ethernet connection to set up the repeater unit to avoid conflicts with the
wireless connection to the base station.

Note:

If you are using the N300RM base station with a different router
product as the repeater, you might need to change additional
configuration settings. In particular, you should disable the DHCP
server function on the wireless repeater

AP.

To configure the modem router as a repeater unit:

1.

Log in to the modem router that will be the repeater.

2.

Select Basic > Wireless Settings and verify that the wireless settings match the base unit

exactly. The wireless security option has to be set to WEP or None.

3.

Select Advanced > Wireless Repeating Function.

4.

Select the Enable Wireless Repeating Function check box and the Wireless Repeater

radio button.

5.

Fill in the Repeater IP Address field. This IP address has to be in the same subnet as the

base station, but different from the LAN IP address of the base station.

6.

Click Apply to save your changes.

7.

Verify connectivity across the LANs.

A computer on any wireless or wired LAN segment of the modem router should be able

to connect to the Internet or share files and printers with any other wireless or wired
computer or server connected to the other access point.

Dynamic DNS

If your Internet service provider (ISP) gave you a permanently assigned IP address, you can
register a domain name and have that name linked with your IP address by public Domain
Name Servers (DNS). Most Internet accounts use dynamically assigned IP addresses. You
do not know in advance what your IP address will be, and the address can change
frequently. In this case, you can use a commercial Dynamic DNS service. This type of
service lets you register your domain to their IP address and forwards traffic directed at your
domain to your frequently changing IP address.

If your ISP assigns a private WAN IP address (such as 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x), the Dynamic
DNS service does not work because private addresses are not routed on the Internet.

Your modem router contains a client that can connect to the Dynamic DNS service provided
by DynDNS.org. If you register for an account and set up the modem router, whenever your
ISP-assigned IP address changes, your modem router automatically contacts the Dynamic
DNS service provider, logs in to your account, and registers your new IP address. If your host
