The third illustration (figure 5), shows the effects of the speaker being raised an addi-
tional 6 inches off the floor. Here the sound staging properties will be excellent as will high
frequency linearity and overall lucidity of detail. There will, however, be a noticeable loss
in bass and lower midrange response due to the lack of 2 pi steradian support of the direct
output of the woofer. Generally, as the WATT is raised up off the floor, the sound becomes
“lighter” in balance as the speaker’s height is increased. The recommended range of mount-
ing heights is from 18 inches to 28 inches.
