cord is used, to prevent water from traveling along the cord and

coming in contact with the outlet or light unit. If the plug or outlet

does get wet, DON’T unplug the electrical cord. Disconnect the

fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the appliance, then
unplug and examine for presence of water in the outlet.

performing any maintenance of any kind.

SunRay bulbs (or any other metal halide bulbs) always

ensure that the fixture is unplugged.

RECOMMENDATION: Use only Exo Terra

®

Sunray bulbs as per the

wattage rating indicated on the electrical data label located on the

fixture. UV radiation slowly decreases over time. To assure that your

animals continuously receive the right amount of UV, we recommend

to replace the Exo Terra

®

Sunray bulb every 12 months. Subscribe to

our “Restore the Rays” program on www.exo-terra.com to receive a

reminder when your Exo Terra

®

Sunray bulb needs to be replaced.

INSTALLATION OF LIGHTING UNIT (p. 38)

1. Clean the outside surface of the terrarium glass

2. With the protective backing still intact, place the SunRay fixture

adhesive supporting base on the back or the side of the terrarium

to determine its final position.

3. Mark the position with a wax pencil or other marker.

4. Remove the protective backing and carefully fit the adhesive

supporting base within the marked area.

5. Make sure the tape is pressed evenly against the terrarium glass

and that no air bubbles are showing.

6. Press the adhesive sides firmly against the glass panel for at

least 30 seconds.

7. Wait a few moments and make sure the tape is attached firmly to

the terrarium before releasing the fixture.

8. Once in place, the SunRay fixture should not be removed.

9. Adjust the height and tighten the screw of adhesive supporting

base when the Exo Terra

®

SunRay fixture is suspended above the

terrarium at the desired height. Grasp the fixture at the

point indicated.

10. Ensure that the light’s focal point is not positioned above any

plastic parts of the terrarium or screen cover to prevent damage.

5. To avoid injury, do not contact hot parts, allow to cool down

before handling.

6. Do not use the appliance for other than intended use. The use

of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance

manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.

7. The Exo Terra

®

SunRay Bulb emits UV and was designed strictly

for use with reptiles. It should be operated in a way that humans

are never exposed to UV. Before handling the bulb, and to avoid

exposing yourself to the light emitted by the bulb, switch off the

bulb and let it cool down.

8. Never look directly into the bulb.

9. Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to

weather or to temperatures below freezing.

10. The safety of this appliance is guaranteed only provided that the

bulbs, adaptors, and light unit is properly installed.

11. Do not use more than one bulb on one ballast.

12. Damaged bulbs or bulbs that do not function properly have to be

removed immediately.

13. Provide sufficient ventilation. Never cover the bulb or ballast.

14. Never install the bulb near flammable objects.

15. The housing of this bulb may only be opened by authorized

personnel or by the manufacturer.

16. Switch off the bulb before performing any maintenance of any

kind in the terrarium.

17. Disconnect the plug of the light unit, and any other electrical

equipment, used for the terrarium, paludarium or aqua-terrarium

before placing your hands in the water; and/or performing any

maintenance of any kind.

18. Whenever installing, removing, changing or maintaining bulbs

always ensure that the device is unplugged.

19. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a proper rating

should be used. A cord rated for less amperes or watts than the

appliance rating may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange

the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.

20. DANGER – To avoid possible electrical shock, special care should

be taken. For each of the following situations, do not attempt

repairs yourself; return the appliance to an authorized service

facility for service or discard the appliance:

A. If the appliance falls into the water, DON’T reach for it! First

unplug it and then retrieve it. If the electrical components of the

appliance get wet, unplug the appliance immediately.

B. Carefully examine the appliance after installation. It should not

be plugged in if there is water on parts not intended to be wet.

C. Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged electrical cord

or plug, or if it is malfunctioning or if it is dropped or damaged

in any manner. The power cord of this appliance

cannot be replaced: if the cord is damaged, the

appliance should be discarded. Never cut

the cord.

D. To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug

or electrical outlet getting wet, position the

appliance to one side of a wall mounted outlet

to prevent water from dripping onto the outlet

or plug. A “drip-loop” should be arranged. The

“drip-loop” is that part of the cord below the
