sampling head and the speed of the pump. The resulting flow rate being

determined by the reading obtained on the vacuum gauge E.

Table 1 presents the combination of slit openings and readings on the

vacuum gauge (set by adjusting the pump speed control F on the pump unit,

see Figure 3), which correspond to a range of flow rates.

To undertake the determination of airborne bacteria, a suitable flow rate

should be selected from Table 1 above. The flow rate chosen will be

dependant on the expected level of airborne bacteria and the desired

sampling time.
