12 Setup and Programming (Continued) / Operation

INT ERLEAVER: Sets the QAM modulator i nterleaver. C hoose amo
ng the avai lable s electio ns based upo n yo ur system / set top box
requirements. For typical 256-QAM. DigiCi pher II CATV systems,
I128, J1 is the most commo nly used i nterleave setti ng but many
other choices are avai lable. T his menu does not appear i n the
adjust mode if the QAM mode is A (DVB) as there is o nly o ne
choice i n the DVB standard. W hen not i n adjust mode, this screen
wi ll display the setti ng i n QAM - A modes as well.

OUT PUT FORMAT : For normal operation, select NORMAL. For
system level set up, choose CW to provide a CW carrier at t he center
frequency of the o utput c hannel for use i n leveli ng a system when a
QAM po wer meter is not avai lable. To disable all RF output, select
STANDBY. In the CW mode, the CW carrier can be
measured o n a spectrum analyzer witho ut a need to apply a
bandwidth correctio n or it can be measured with an analog meter
tuned to c hannel center. T he CW po wer measured wi ll equal the
channel QAM power when the modulator is returned to NORMAL
output mode. Usually QAM signals are set 5 dB to 10 dB
belo w analog NTSC channels when balanci ng a system. T he
PRBS modes provide a pseudo random bi nary sequence o utput
test signal for use i n laboratory testing.

OUT PUT CHANMAP, OUT PUT CHANNEL: Select the desired EIA
CATV channel o utput usi ng these two menus.

RF OUT : Select the desired RF o utput signal level. T he avai lable
range is between 45 dBmV and 62 dBmV, selectable i n 0.5 dB
steps. T he o utput accuracy is ± 1 dB.

SET UP: SDE24
SELECT : The LEFT and RIGHT buttons allow the user to scroll
thro ugh the encoder numbers for each encoder i nstalled i n the
MEQ1000A as well as the MEQ1000A itself. Use the LE FT and
RIGHT butto ns to select the encoder to be programmed.

VIDEO: T his menu entry allo ws the user to select between SVIDEO
and COMPOSITE video input for each selected encoder.

FORMAT : Either MPEG2 or MPEG4 H.264 may be selected as the
output format for the selected encoder usi ng this menu item.
Encoder 2 o n a given SDE24 has no option. It is forced to MPEG2.

RESOLUT ION: T he resolution of the video output of each encoder
may be selected from this menu item. T he choices range from 720
x 480 thru 353 x 240 as shown o n the software flow chart o n page
9.

BRIGHT NESS, CONT RAST , SAT URAT ION and HUE: T hese
menu items allo w the user to assign each of these parameters of
the o utput video values from 0 to 255.

MAX AUD IO IN: T his menu entry allo ws the user to set the
maximum audio input which may be i nput to the selected encoder.
The choices are 1 Vrms or 2 V rms.

AUD IO GAIN: T he audio o utput level can be chosen from this
menu item by selection of the appropriate gai n. T he values range
from + 15 dB to - 15 dB. A udio output can also be completely
elimi nated usi ng the ‘MUTE’ selectio n.

AUD IO ENCODER: T he SDE24 i ncludes audio encoders for Dolby
Digital Stereo commercial encoding (AC3) or MPEG1 Layer 2 audio
encodi ng (MP2). In the USA, the majority of applicatio ns wi ll use
AC3 but if yo ur net wor k is usi ng A nnex A (DVB) set top bo xes, they
may require the M PEG audio selectio n. Some TVs and set top boxes
wi ll decode either mode but be sure to set the encoder to the mode
used by other programmi ng on yo ur system to i ns ur e complete
compatibilit y. T he AUDIO ENCODE(R) menu allo ws yo u to select
either AC3 or MP2. Use the up/dn arrow keys to toggle between the
two setti ngs.

OPERAT ION - MULT IPLEXING T WO AT SC INPUT S
To use the DTD1000, SDE24 and/or the ASII modules to multiplex
two ATSC inputs, proceed as follo ws:

1) Connect the off-air antenna, CATV feed, or audio and video
(SDE24) or ASI feed, to the INPUT A and INPUT B inputs of the
MEQ1000A. If using two RF i nputs the two input connectors are
available i n case the two RF signals must come from different
antennas or if one signal is coming from a cable system, etc. If
usi ng a common antenna, use a good quality two way splitter to
split the antenna and feed each i nput.
2) Plug the power cord from the unit i nto the po wer source.
3) Follow the instructions i n the programmi ng sectio n above to
set the channel map and channel number for both INPUT
MODULE A and INPUT MODULE B.
4) Set the QAM SYMRATE to PRESET.
5) Set the MULTIPLEX setting ENABLED
6) Set the INPUT B OFFSET to 10. Read detai ls i n programmi ng
section to determi ne if you need another value.
7) Select the desired MPEG programs. (See the previous
section for details.)
8) In the PSIP menu, select BASIC MGT VCT for now, this may
be changed later. See program mi ng section for detail.
9) In the VCT TABLE menu, select TVCT.
10) In the MAJOR CHANNEL menu, select OUTPUT CHANNEL.
This may be changed later.
11) From the QAM MODE menu, set the QAM modulator to
QAM-256B for use i n a DigiCipher II enviro nment. If DVB, use
QAM-256A instead.

12) In the QAM S YMRATE menu, select PRESET.
13) Set the INTERLEAVER to I128,J1 if in a DigiCipher II
enviro nment. T here is no i nterleaver menu when the QAM
mode is set to A (DVB).
14) Set the OUTPUT FORMAT to NORMAL.
15) Set the OUTPUT CHANMAP and OUTPUT CHANNEL to
the desired EIA CATV output channel.

If the seco nd program is bei ng i nput to a ASII Module via the ASI
input i nstead of a DTD1000, the same steps apply except that
there wi ll be no parameters to set for the ASII MODULE.

SET T OP BOX MAPP ING
When setti ng up a program map for your set top boxes to i nclude
off-air channels that are multiplexed by the MEQ1000A be sure to
inform the programmer that the MPEG program numbers for the
programs coming i n thro ugh INPUT MODULE B or ASI B have
been offset by the amo unt selected i n the INPUT B OFFSET
menu. As an example: If input A is providing a channel with
MPEG programs 1 and 2 i n the stream and i nput B is providing a
channel with MPEG programs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 i n the stream, and
the INPUT B OFFSET is set to 10, then the new o utput signal wi ll
contai n M PEG programs with program numbers of 1, 2, 11, 12,
13, 14, and 15. If the set top is not looki ng for the right program
number, yo u wi ll not receive any video!
