Appendix C: System Upgrade & Dual Access

System Update / Onboard Programming

It is occasionally necessary to update the firmware of the system. Normally, this
procedure is carried out in the factory. If you want to update the firmware yourself,
contact Technical Support. You will need a programming cable and software to carry
out the update. Please follow the supplied instructions carefully.

Dual Access (PS/2 devices only)

Two jumpers located on the keyboard/mouse daughter board in the Remote unit
allow you to:

Change the Inactivity Timeout period between 2s (the default) and 15s. This is
the minimum time of mouse and keyboard inactivity required at one console,
before the Extender system allows the user at the other console to gain control.

The upper jumper switch (labeled Time) selects the inactivity timeout period.
When closed, the setting is 2 seconds. When open, the setting is 15 seconds.

Select the method for gaining control. Two choices are available:

• Any keyboard activity or by pressing the left and right mouse buttons

simultaneously (the default), or

• Keyboard activity only.

The lower jumper switch (labeled KeyB) selects the method of switching
between local and remote consoles. When open, the setting is for any keyboard
action or by pressing the left and right mouse button simultaneously. When
closed, the method is set to keyboard activity only.
