Introduction

The AS-816 Multi-Port Line Sharer was

designed to meet the growing demand for efficient
use of out bound telephone lines between many
devices. The AS-816 operates on a First Come/First
Served basis, allowing up to 16 analog
telecommunication devices (ports, i. e. telephones,
credit card strip readers, etc.) to use any of the CO
lines connected to it (up to 8 CO line per unit). You
can increase the efficiency even more with the
addition of a slave unit; two AS-816's can share the
CO lines with up to 32 analog ports. The AS-816
will give each port equal priority with the others,
First Come/First Served; no port will have a higher
priority than any of the others.

As soon as a port requests a CO line, this unit

will automatically route the port to the first available
line. When all lines are in use, the AS-816
automatically disables all "inactive" ports; the ports
will be re-enabled when any CO line becomes
available. The AS-816 will not accept or pass
incoming calls to any port. In case of power outage,
no port will be connected to any of the CO lines. The
AS-816 is designed to have sole use of the CO lines
that it is connected to; attempting to share CO lines
between an AS-816 and some other device, i.e. your
phone system, will result in the devices "walking"

on each others calls.

Installation

1) Connect a 50 pin Ribbon connector cable from

the AS-816 to the CO lines and
telecommunication devices.

2) If a slave unit is attached, connect a 50 pin

Ribbon connector cable from the slave AS-816
to the same CO lines as the master, and also to
the remaining telecommunication devices not
covered by the master.

3) If a slave unit is attached, connect the supplied

serial interface cable to the serial connector on
each unit.

4) Make any jumper setting changes to the unit(s)

before you power the unit(s) up (the AS-816 will
ignore any jumper changes after power up).

5) Connect the power cord from the AS-816 to

standard 110VAC house power; if a slave unit is
attached, connect the power cords from both
units, master and slave, to one power strip
(needed to power up both units at the same time)
and then you can turn the power on to the strip.
