A loud noise is heard
when the fl ash fi res.
Ensure that the left side of the fl ash head does not touch
metal objects, as otherwise a loud report may be heard
when the fl ash is fi red (
P 48). This does not indicate
a malfunction.

The camera does
not display the
fl ash setup menu.
• Confi rm that the camera supports the EF-X500 ( P 96).
• Confi rm that the master fl ash is correctly mounted and
latched (
P 15).
• If the fl ash or hot shoe contacts are dirty, clean them with a
soft, dry cloth (
P 15).
• Check that the master fl ash power switch is rotated to MAS-
TER ( P 17).
The fl ash displays
r and settings
can not be
adjusted.
Use a camera that supports master mode.
Remote units do
not fi re.
• Confi rm that the remote units are positioned where they can
receive signals from the master fl ash (
P 48) and that
their receivers are facing the master fl ash ( P 49).
• Check battery levels and replace or recharge batteries as nec-
essary (
P 13).
• Check that the power switches on the remote units are rotat-
ed to
REMOTE ( P 17).
• Check group settings ( P 50).
• The units may be in standby mode ( P 18). Press the
test button on the master fl ash.
• Confi rm that the master and remote units are set to the same
channel (
P 52, 56).
The master fl ash
does not fi re. Select F (group A), G (group B), or H (group C) for
N MASTER ( P 55).
