Using the right recovery tools is as

essential to treasure hunting as the

detector itself. Here are a few examples

of recovery tools and their uses (Figure

10).

A hand scoop is useful for dry sand and

shallow water recovery up to two feet.

A trowel is best for recovering items in

clay or gravel areas.

Tip: A strong magnet attached to the inside of a scoop will
help separate bits of wire and other iron debris from your
treasure finds.
