* Water Hammer: Sudden closure of a control valve or stopping of a pump produces excess pressure in a pipeline. The hydraulic
engineer, water supply designer and pumping system operator have the responsibility to ensure the surges due to Water Hammer are
within acceptable limits and can be dampened as quickly as possible.
