Glossary
Cursor
A visual tracking marker (a blinking line) that
indicates a location on the display.
Digital Private Line
(DPL)
A type of coded squelch using data bursts.
Similar to PL except a digital code is used
instead of a tone.
Digital Signal
An RF signal that has a pulsed, or discrete
nature, rather than a continuous nature.
Dispatcher
An individual who has radio system
management duties.
Dynamic
Regrouping
A feature that allows the dispatcher to
temporarily reassign selected radios to a
single special channel so they can
communicate with each other.
Failsoft
A feature that allows communications to take
place even though the central controller has
failed. Each trunked repeater in the system
will transmit a data word informing every radio
that the system has gone into failsoft.
FCC
Federal Communications Commission.
Hang Up
Disconnect.
LED
Light-emitting diode.
Monitor
Check channel activity by pressing the
Monitor button. If the channel is clear, you will
hear static. If the channel is in use, you will
hear conversation. It also serves as a way to
check the volume level of the radio, as the
radio will “open the squelch” when pressing
the monitor button.
Network Access
Code
Network Access Code (NAC) operates on
digital channels to reduce voice channel
interference between adjacent systems and
sites.
