4-9 PnP / PCI Configuration Setup

45

This section describes how to configure the PCI bus system. PCI, or Personal Computer

Interconnect, is a system which allows I/O devices to operate at the speed the CPU itself

keeps when CPU communicates with its own special components. This section covers

some very technical items and we strongly recommended that only experienced users

should make any change to the default settings.

Resource Controlled By
The Award Plug and Play BIOS can automatically configure all of the boot and Plug
and Play compatible devices. However, this capability means absolutely nothing unless
you are using a Plug and Play operating system such as Windows 95/98. If you set
this field to "manual", choose a specific resource by going into each sub menu that
follows this field (a sub menu is preceded by a ">").
The settings are Auto (ESCD) or Manual.

IRQ Resources
When resources are controlled manually, each system interrupt is assigned a type,
depending on the type of device using the interrupt.

PCI/VGA Palette Snoop
Leave this field at Disabled. The settings are Enabled or Disabled.
