To install the headstock, do these steps:

1. With an assistant, position the pocket

over the column (

Figure 16) and allow

the headstock to slide down until the col-

umn fully seats up and into the headstock

(approximately 3

Tip: Place a few drops of multi-purpose

grease on the column to help the head-

stock seat more easily.

2. Align the headstock directly over the foot

of the base as viewed from the front of the

drill press and center it using a plumb bob

and ruler (see

Figure 17).

3. Tighten the two set screws to secure the

headstock to the column (see

Figure 18).

4. Install the belt cover knob with the includ-

ed Phillips head screw (see

Figure 16).

GET assistance before

beginning the next step.

The headstock is an awk-

ward and heavy load.

The headstock must be tightened in position

with two set screws, so the headstock is aligned

with the drill press foot for balance and weight

distribution.

DO NOT over tighten the set

screws and strip the threads or bend the col-

umn.
