Formatting Memory or Picture Card

You may need to format the camera’s internal memory if it becomes corrupted.
You may need to format a Picture Card if it becomes corrupted or if it was used
in a different camera. When formatting is necessary, an error message appears
on the LCD screen.

See page 58

for error messages.

CAUTION:

Formatting erases everything, even protected pictures,
from the internal memory or Picture Card. Removing the
Picture Card during formatting may damage the card.

Turn the Mode dial to Setup

Highlight the Format

menu, then press the Select button.

Highlight the Format option you want to use:

FORMAT CARD—erases all of the
information on the Picture Card
and
reformats the card for use in the camera.
CANCEL FORMAT—exits without making a
change.
FORMAT MEMORY—erases all of the
information in the camera’s internal
memory
and reformats the memory.

Press the Select button.

Highlight Continue Format, then press the
Select button.

When the formatting is complete, the Setup
menu is automatically redisplayed.

NOTE: Once formatting begins, it is completed

even if you turn off the camera or change
the Mode dial position.
